I grew up on the east coast with that old fashion rule of “no white after Labor Day”. Thank goodness that fashion rule is no longer the rule!
It actually first came onto the American fashion scene at the turn of the 20th century. Back then, the “summer season was bracketed by Memorial Day and Labor Day,” when city folks would shed their heavily-layered sidewalk frocks for more comfortable and light fabrics at the seaside.
Maybe it’s global warming but some our warmest days can be in September into October so wear white . . . it’s completely acceptable!
I am ready for a change up in my wardrobe. I’m ready to wear sweaters, flats and even my puffy vest but I am not quite ready to put away my white jeans. I spent more than I normally would on these jeans because they fit so well and I felt so good in them. Plus they were super comfortable! When you are a busy mom, in and out of the car, running errands, attending school functions and games plus all the other crazy things we do you need cute, a good fit and comfort! I knew the minute I tried them on I had to have them. So as you can see I am not quiet ready to put them away for the year.
Here’s my thing about finding great fitted jeans – if you find that perfect pair of jeans that you feel like a million bucks in – spend the money and buy them. You will wear them all the time if you feel great in them. And we don’t need a ton of jeans in our closet, we need one great pair that we accessorize with new tops and shoes.
The cooler temps aren’t here yet but the mornings and evenings can be chilly so I can get a little bit of my sweater fix with layering.
I just bought this black v-neck sweater from Nordstrom. It’s super soft, super affordable ($39.00) and oh yeah, I got a slightly longer version in gray (click here to see) as well. One of my favorite color combos is black and white, it’s such a clean look.

I always have a sweater or jacket with me and it’s usually tied around my waist. I actually tied this sweater around my waist this morning with my favorite dress as I went off to a back to school coffee!
Anyway, I am of the belief a woman should always be prepared with a lightweight sweater. Our body temps fluctuate like crazy and then there is the blasting A/C issue.
And as it warms up during the day I have a tank top! Old Navy has great graphic tanks as well as solid colored tanks for great prices. Tanks are great layering pieces in the fall . . . you don’t want to spend a lot money on them.
And one last look. I decided to go with short boots the other night when we were going out and of course I had my jacket!

So here’s to wearing white in September and mixing it up with summer and fall clothes together!
