OK, I am getting honest . . . yikes! I get Botox (actually I do Dysport which is similar to Botox but a different manufacturer) treatments and I am a little bit nervous about sharing that little fact but I know when I was exploring the possibility I wanted to talk to anyone I knew that had done it but it’s not something you typically bring up unless you are super close friends. So maybe this will help you decide one way or another.
Let me first start by saying, I am a bigger believer when you feel good about yourself your confidence soars. Always remember this is your journey, don’t worry about what other people think. If something helps with your self-esteem and gives you confidence then do it.
Exercise and healthy eating are two things that helped boost my self-confidence.Years ago I began to feel stronger and healthier from the inside and out, my clothes fit better and I had more energy.
But all my life I had deep forehead lines. . . . it’s genetic and it actually never bothered me until I hit 50. I wasn’t feeling my age, I actually felt better than I did at 40 yet I was feeling the lines and wrinkles on my face start to deepen even when I wasn’t smiling, frowning or raising my eyebrows.
My decision to try Dysport (i.e. Botox) wasn’t made lightly. I explored the different options and med- spas and spoke with others who had botox. I wasn’t trying to look younger, I was trying to feel better in my skin. I finally went for it and had my first treatment a year and a half ago and had a positive experience.
I had my forehead and crow’s feet done, and it took less than 10 minutes. I have very small pain tolerance, this is not painful. It feels like a tiny sting (mainly in the forehead), but it lasts less than a second. Only one time did I have a tiny bit of bruising but now they give me a small ice pack that I hold on my forehead before an injection.
It takes 2 weeks for you to see the full effects. I immediately felt less self-conscious. The changes are subtle and you will notice them more than anyone and that’s actually the key. It’s more of a smoothing out of your fine lines and the best part for me was the two severe frown lines between my eyebrows and nose have almost completely disappeared. I go back every 4-5 months almost as maintenance.
Check out my results! I’m not wearing any makeup in these photos.
Peels make me nervous. Other kinds of fillers like around the lips are not for me. For me, I will continue to just do my forehead and around my eyes. I don’t mind wrinkles, they actually are a badge of honor – I just didn’t need them to be as deep as they were. 🙂 The most important thing is I feel good about me.
