Do you exchange gifts with your spouse? We do but every year we check in with each other to see if we are both on board. It’s not like we need anything, we tend to overspend for the kids each year (it’s hard not to plus it’s fun) and I think some years we both think we could save a little money by not exchanging. It’s not about the gifts themselves, it’s about taking a little bit of time to think about your significant other. We both try to be creative, to think outside the box with our gifts and I think it’s romantic. I also think it’s a good lesson for our kids that you never take your spouse for granted, it shows thoughtfulness and love.
The other tradition we have had since our three kids were really little is they exchange with each other as well as us. They have spending limit they agree to and they get really jazzed at giving their gifts on Christmas morning. Over the years it has turned into trying to a bit of a contest between them on who’s the most creative and fun. It’s a great lesson in giving and is one of the highlights of the holiday.
But here’s the thing – getting creative, coming up with the perfect gift, and hoping they will love it is exhausting. Each year we ask our kids for lists which for teens is crucial since they are so particular and my husband and I give each other shortlists to get started.
We always remind the kids don’t expect anything or everything from your list but we all need ideas, and starting off points and you always want the person you are giving to be happy and love it. So I have come to embrace Christmas gift lists as a way to guide me in the right direction.
So here is my gift/wish list and maybe it will help inspire you and give you some ideas. 🙂
Harry Josh Hair Dryer
I am coveting this hair dryer!! It’s won all sorts of beauty awards and supposedly will leave your hair feeling the closest to getting it professionally blown out! It’s super lightweight yet powerful and reduces frizz and dry time. Sounds perfect to me and it’s on sale at Target!
I used to buy cookbooks all the time and I loved thumbing through them to gain inspiration to cook. Over the years I found I was simply searching for recipes online which is great and convenient but I don’t venture out of my comfort zone as much and try new recipes. This coming year I want to renew my love of cooking! I have been eyeing Cravings and Jerusalem for months now and I am excited to check these out and have fun trying out new recipes.
I just love getting new pj’s every Christmas! PJ Salvage pj’s are the coziest and they are the treat that I won”t necessarily treat myself to which makes them a great gift.
Staying with the sleep/lounge theme! I have fallen in love with Mahabis! My hubby has these Mahabis and as ugly as they sort of our they are also sort of awesome. They can take you outside or keep you cozy inside. The perfect slipper especially for the non-slipper gal. 🙂
My favorite gifts are the small, fun stocking stuffers. I love that my husband and I each fill each other’s stocking with goodies. In the early days it used to be candy and socks, thankfully we have gotten much more creative! 🙂
What’s on your list?
