Happy Friday . . . is it spring break at your house? It is at ours – my kids have 10 days off and my husband closed the office this Friday . . . woohoo!! I am really enjoying not making school lunches at 6 am and the easy feel of just hanging out! And baseball season began . . . a few years ago I would not have been that excited about baseball but I have grown to love my LA Dodgers!! And there is some great college basketball on tv this weekend . . . how can you not be swept up in the March Madness! We are rooting for Loyola Chicago and Sister Jean . . . I love a good underdog/cinderella story!
But let’s get to my Friday favorite picks:
American Idol
OK, I can’t even believe this is one of my favorites but the new reboot is really good and totally worth checking out! American Idol was our family show for years – through some work connections, we were able to attend a tape of a live show every season so when the show ended a few years ago we were all sort of bummed.
The new show which is on ABC on Sunday and Monday nights is really good – the talent is amazing, the judges are funny and all have their quirky personalities and it just makes me happy. This time around not all of us are watching but hey I got one kid out of three that is watching with my husband and I each week – I’ll take that!
Foam Roller Stick
If I could have run the marathon with this foam roller in my pocket I would have!! My quads were so tight by the last few miles I actually stopped and a stranger used the rolling sticks on my quads which gave me at least a little relief to get me to the finish line.
I love my foam roller and I am a big believer in the importance of rolling out legs, shoulder, back . . . really overall but the foam roller can often be difficult to use and reach certain parts of your body. This stick makes it so much easier to roll from foot, leg, thigh, calf, quad, IT bands, hamstring, glute, hip to arm, shoulder, neck, head, and back. It’s the next best thing to having your own private masseuse every day. It’s great for restoring and rehabilitating sore, tight muscles, releasing tension, helps gets rid of knots, increases blood circulation and improves mobility and flexibility.
L’Oreal True Match
Yup, that’s right a simple drugstore brand makeup is making my favorites this week. Months ago I saved an article from the NY Times, “The Best Make Up You Can Buy at the Drugstore” thinking that when I was in need of new makeup I would try some of their recommendations.
The toughest part about buying a drugstore brand foundation is the matching – seriously how are you supposed to know if you are a light, medium or #22? Target now has a beauty counter which is brilliant on their part and someone there was able to match my color . . . how cool is that? BTW, I am a number 6.
I love how sheer this foundation feels yet still gives great coverage. I don’t wear a whole lot of makeup and when I do I want it to look natural but to hide imperfections . . . this does it plus it has SPF and gives a luminous/glowing look. And the best part the price! 🙂 And buy the way I am going to check out the other drugstore makeup picks as I need them . . . check out the NY Times article here.
Sam Edelman Ballet Flat
Not only cute but SO comfortable and fits true to size. It is not easy to find a comfortable wear all day flat! Often a flat looks cute but after a couple of hours they are typically not so comfortable and often don’t have great support. I have worn these all day into the evening and they have been great!
I think a good neutral flat is an essential for spring and summer – a neutral flat looks great with denim, shorts, and dresses. Without a doubt my favorite flat!
Denim Jacket
So simple – doesn’t everyone have a jean jacket? I bought this denim jacket when it was a deal of the day at Old Navy for $15.00 and I have more than worn my money’s worth and it’s just the start of the spring season! Without a doubt this one of my favorite new purchases this spring! I love the color (medium-rinse) and the fit. A denim jacket goes with everything even jeans – it’s just finding the one that you like – dark rinse, distressed, or faded.
