Happy Friday . . . let’s talk about skincare as we head into the weekend! 🙂
There are so many skin care products on the market all promising something or should I say some miracle that it’s easy to get overwhelmed, spend a lot of money and ultimately not even use them. The two most important thing we should all be doing every day no matter are moisturizing and sunscreen – if that’s all you do every day you are already ahead of the game.
I haven’t always been consistent with my skincare regime but recently after a girls weekend with my sisters and nieces where I had the most amazing facial, I decided it was time to be more diligent about my face care routine! It’s never too late to reduce those fine lines and reduce further damage. 🙂
I’ve been following my new routine for over 6 weeks – my skin feels and looks tighter, I think some of those fine lines have been reduced and I definitely feel like my skin has more of a glow. I am sure if I was younger I would see even bigger improvements but the best part is I feel more comfortable and confident with my skin.
Things have to be simple for me to stick with them – my morning and evening routine are slightly different but overall take less than 5 minutes – I can handle that! I also splurged on a couple of products that I find are amazing but I also use some very reasonably priced products that are equally amazing. Trust me you don’t need to spend a fortune on skincare.
I want to share what I am using and hopefully, it will help you choose some products based on your needs. The key is it is never too late or to early to start taking care of your skin.
The key is to choose a gentle cleanser – it doesn’t have to be a fancy one. Currently, I am using a cleanser my dermatologist gave me but I love Cetaphil is a great choice.
Toner and Exfoliants:
1. Biologique Recherche P59 Original “1970” from the Rescue Spa is so worth the splurge! It has a cult following and exfoliates, hydrates, and balances the pH of the skin – it has given my skin a glow and I feel like I’m giving myself a mini facial every time I use it.
I use it right after washing my face in the morning and at night – unless I am using retinol at night. I actually love the tingly feeling on my face right after I use it.
You can only buy it directly from Rescue Spa. It comes in two sizes, I would recommend the smaller size to see how you like it. . . click here to purchase.
2. Differin is a retinoid and helps decrease fine lines and wrinkles by building collagen. It also helps improves skin tone and texture because it lightly exfoliates your skin and helps with any acne or breakouts. You only use at night and just a pea size.
I use Differin only it 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) because it can be very drying though it doesn’t dry out my skin as much as I expected. I DO NOT USE the 1970 toner when I use Differin.
There are so many serums on the market it will make your head spin. I was looking for a serum that would help brighten my skin tone and fade brown spots so I went with a combination of Vitamin C and Ferulic acid. This combination protects your skin from environmental damage and improves signs of aging, reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles while firming and brightening the complexion.
Seoul Ceutical Day Glow Serum is identical to the more expensive serum by SkinCeutical and works the same. I use this after the toner before I moisturize. It goes on smoothly and doesn’t feel greasy. My skin is brighter and I hoping that my brown spots fade more as I continue to use.
We can’t forget about the neck . . . it can show your age even when your face is looking young. I have been using M-61 Hydraboost Line Reducer on my neck and face for about a year. It helps reduce the appearance of deep-set wrinkles and lines on the neck and I also use it around my mouth and forehead. It goes on super smooth and you only need a little so yes, it is a splurge but lasts a long time and our necks are worth it. 🙂
Really this is one of the best things you can do for your skin!! Moisturizing helps your skin look younger, reduces lines and wrinkles, and keeps your skin from flaking and looking dry.
In the morning, I use M-61 Hydraboost Moisturizer – it is a great lightweight daily moisturizer. I use this every morning and it is a bit of a splurge but a little goes a long way so it lasts about 5-6 months. It does NOT have SPF so I use a separate sunscreen every morning.
At night, I use Marula oil . . . it is a light oil that won’t clog your pores and it absorbs quickly so you don’t feel oily. I use just a few drops on my neck and face and rub the excess oil into my hands. I LOVE how soft and supple my skin feels. It is light enough to use in the morning as well but for now, I just use it at bedtime.
I am currently using Dermae Oil which is a combination of Marula with Jojoba oil. Marula oil is amazing – you can even use it on your hair to help with dead ends. My other two favorite Marula Oils are Acure and Cold Pressed Marula Oil.
This is a non-negotiable step in my skin care routine!! It’s simple if you are looking for the best way to keep your skin healthy and young looking . . . use sunscreen. I wish I had started this in my twenties!!
My two favorite sunscreens for the face:
Both are matte and perfect for everyday! Adding sunblock to your morning routine is actually the number one thing you want to make sure you are doing . . . according to to the Skin Cancer Foundation “More than 90 percent of the visible skin changes associated with aging are caused by the sun’s ultraviolet rays.” AKA, wrinkles so do not skip the sunscreen daily.
I feel better about my skin. I don’t like wearing a lot of makeup and I am now even more confident on those days when I just put on some mascara, a little bronzer and lipgloss!
I would love to hear about your favorite skin care product, comment below or message me! 🙂
