I equate podcast listening to Netflix watching. We have all been guilty of binge-watching some great Netflix series and trust me when you find a good podcast it’s near impossible to stop listening. And just like Netflix, the choices are vast from politics to the latest in entertainment to real life episodic stories to people just talking and sharing. And just like we are constantly asking our friends and family what they are watching – it’s time to start asking your family and friends what they are listening to.
I listen to podcasts when I am out on a run or walk, while I am driving and even while I am cooking or cleaning. In this crazy chaotic world, we all live in I find listening to a podcast in a sense therapeutic as well as entertaining and educational.
The first podcast I ever listened to was season 1 of Serial. It’s about a popular high-school senior who is murdered and her ex-boyfriend is arrested and so it begins. This is a great one to listen and I have shared some of my favorites in earlier blog posts – check them out here and here.
I thought I would update my list and share three new podcast recommendations that I have recently binged listened. All three are amazing and you can access them via Podcasts on Itunes or Spotify.
The Drop Out is amazing! It’s the story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos – an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. She was heralded as the next Steve Jobs with the technology to change the whole health care system. How did the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye? How did her technology, meant to revolutionize healthcare, potentially put millions of patients at risk? I knew the Theranos story before I started listening but I came to realize I really didn’t know that much – this is an eye-opening of smoke and mirrors.
This next one, Over My Dead Body, is reminder things are not always as they seem. This is the story of the “perfect” couple that falls apart, leads to a bad breakup, a worse divorce, and a murder case involving a menagerie of high-priced lawyers and unexpected co-conspirators! You think you know where it is going and then it takes a turn down a completely different path.
I had read a review about the new memoir, The Unwinding of the Miracle by Julie Yip-Williams. It’s the story of Julie’s fight and her story of dying from Stage IV colon cancer. Julie’s story is an immigrant story, a love story, and a ghost story and beautifully told. This podcast is a companion piece to her book and to hear Julie interacting with her family, and telling her story in her own voice is remarkable and quite special.
What podcasts are you listening to? Please share . . . word of mouth is the best way to find a good one with so many out there 🙂
